So I'm baffled here. I asked a handful of people this thought that popped into my head. Why is it we're told to save our money, you know, be conservative with our spending when we're younger so when we're older, we'll be able to buy the "house of our dreams", "the car of our dreams" and go on a million vacations, but we can do anything to our bodies ie. eating crappy, doing drugs, stress, etc., and pay no mind to the consequences these deleterious actions will incur on the body? We don't hear any wise old people telling us nowadays, with their 1930's-Katherine-Hepburn-accent "Stop with all that candy, and start eating fresh food, because your hearts are gonna give out on you early". All you hear for health is medical society, American Heart Assoc, and other TV doctors tell you the garbage that's been taught in medical school since Eisenhower's time. Look up Ancel Keys and you'll see what I'm talking about (Good calories, bad calories by Gary Taubes). What happen to the real nutritional and medical information that says you reap what you sow? How is it pre-industrialized societies knew that the moment children hit puberty, their bodies were sacred for either childbearing or for bringing home the meal (animal hunting)?
This is what I think. I think we should be just as diligent if not more so, saving our bodies for a healthier, happier older age as we are with our monetary savings. What are you going to enjoy if all the money you saved for your older age will be spent on medical bills in either doctors offices, hospitals and/or monthly medications? If you continue to eat crappy food, get a meaningless stressful 9-5 job, rack up the meaningless purchases and take no responsibility for the little demons you're about to procreate, then I say spend your money now, 'cause you and your significant other won't make it to 40 without a heart attack.
